The assembly of warehouse racks is a two-step process carried out by qualified personnel. The first phase involves preparing and analysing the existing infrastructure. Our specialist assemblers determine the safest and most efficient way to set up the chosen racks. After successfully reviewing all prerequisites, the actual assembly begins with the following steps:

• Frame assembly from posts, diagonals or horizontals, and base plate
• Hooking the rack supports into the perforated pattern of the upright post with hooks at the cleat
• Anchoring to the floor with heavy-duty dowels through the base plate 
• Securing the rack supports with safety pins
• Installation of safety and shelving accessories

Like any other industrial equipment, a racking system offers the necessary level of safety for personnel and storage when operated within the prescribed tolerances. When it comes to the safe use of racks, users should always follow the safety instructions provided (operating manual). Among other things, the load labels provide essential information about the maximum load capacity of each component, the correct loading and unloading procedures for heavy or awkward loads, and how and with which material handling equipment the racks should be operated.

To ensure operational safety, the storage equipment must be regularly inspected and maintained. This way, all safety issues can be identified and isolated, allowing necessary repairs or modifications to be carried out without the risk of accidents. 

For some racking systems, the configuration can be changed after assembly. The extent of possible changes depends on the type of system used, its size and height, as well as additional elements and accessories. Some changes can be made by yourself, while others should be carried out by our professionals. The focus is always on safety – therefore, all structural changes to the racks must be made within the prescribed tolerances.

Since any changes could affect the load capacity of the warehouse rack, you should always consult us beforehand – especially if you plan to change the arrangement of load-bearing elements or add and shift aisles within the structure. For planned or already implemented modifications, we recommend a thorough racking inspection by our specialists to ensure operational safety. 

The load capacity of warehouse racks depends on many factors, including the type of racking system used. At Jungheinrich, we calculate (within a few percent) how much load a specific racking system can support by analysing several components and key elements of the rack. These include, for example:

• The size of the entry 
• The type of support profile (light or box) 
• The actual profile size 
• The size of the support surface and the rack uprights 
• The vertical compartment spacing
• The upright profile (vertical load) 
• The load on the base plate where the rack is installed

By using reinforced structural components, some of our pallet racking systems can also be modified to support higher loads.
